DGPFSS Salutes…

SISIP Financial Services (SISIP FS). This year marks a milestone anniversary for SISIP FS; indeed, 40 years as the delivery arm of financial solutions for the Canadian Forces (CF). Over the years they have also contributed financially to a number of programs ($4M in 2008) such as the Morale and Welfare Unit Grants which alone received $2.5 M. Their contributions to the many programs and activities are intended to benefit you, your family and the CF community as a whole.

DGPFSS Salutes… the Canadian Naval Centennial (CNC). The year 2010 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy. The planning of the celebrations surrounding this milestone is already underway across the country under the theme "Bring the Navy to Canadians".

Events will be focused to honor the past, to showcase the current Navy and to reinforce the requirement for the future Navy. Major international fleet assemblies are scheduled for June 2010 in Victoria and a month later in Halifax during the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. As well, a group of naval warships will visit Toronto during the Canadian National Exhibition and an increased number of port visits are planned for both coasts and in the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes.

To add to the celebrations, CANEX is working in partnership with the organizers of CNC to design, create and distribute official CNC branded merchandise. Gilles Charlebois, Category Manager at CANEX explains: "I have carefully chosen and developed products of quality and value that create lasting impressions." A number of items, including lapel pins, car magnets, and quality clothing, will be available to Canadians at all Navy-based CANEX outlets and through the online CNC store at www.canex.ca. Through the online store, CANEX will also offer individual Navy units the opportunity to co-brand their unit crest with the official CNC logo on a wide assortment of product.

The morale and welfare team at DGPFSS (Personnel and Family Support Services) salutes the SOT Gala. Held in September, the event paid tribute to the valour displayed on a daily basis, not only by the brave men and women who serve our country, but all military families who did not volunteer for service but serve with great distinction. Funds raised by the Gala will be used to provide unique morale and welfare programs to the men and women who have been unable to find support through conventional healthcare and/or social service agencies.

DGPFSS (Personnel and Family Support Services) salutes women in the Canadian Forces sports. October 24th bore witness to the annual Canadian Forces Sports Awards Ceremony that celebrates the achievements of teams and individuals in a variety of athletic domains. The theme of this year’s event was Women in Sport, Then and Now. These awards allow us to showcase the best that the CF offers in national and international sports. Congratulations to go out to all our nominees and winners and to the trailblazing women who have opened doors to today’s champions.

The morale and welfare team at DGPFSS (Personnel and Family Support Services) salutes Operation Santa Claus.

OpSanta provides a holiday gift package to every deployed member of the Canadian Forces at Christmas time, delivering a welcome taste of home to folks who are far away. Although this is a seasonal activity, it takes year-long dedication to bring to life. Identifying prospective donors, working with many companies, warehousing, packaging, wrapping and shipping overseas requires lots of planning. That’s why Santa needs to make a list and check it twice!
