For the fifth year in a row, CANEX and the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC) are partnering for the "Trim our Tree for a Toonie" campaign, which runs from November 14th until Christmas. The "Trim Our Tree" campaign was developed locally in the Maritimes in 2002 and is now a national initiative that raised $8,000 last year. "This year I would like to raise $10,000 for MPFBC", said Brian Tweedle, Director Merchandising & Marketing for CANEX. As in the previous years, people are invited to buy paper ornaments, write their names on them and place them on Christmas trees in all CANEX locations. For individuals who would prefer to simply make a donation, they will be able to do so in the countertop donation boxes available year-round in CANEX stores. CANEX has a long tradition of contributing to the MPFBC and throughout the year coordinates with the MPFBC on fund raising initiatives on bases, wings and units across the country. The MPFBC was created in 1957 to enhance the quality of life and improve self-confidence of young people living with visual impairments through the provision of equipment, computers, and grants for field trips, summer camps, and more. |
